Who we are
PalAbout and its parent company, Spire Interactive, are not anti social media. After all, they were founded by an author who owes his entire career to the more than 350,000 amazing readers and writers who have taken a bet on him. What J.B. Ryder sought to do when he started building PalAbout as a junior in high school was decouple the bad of social media from the good.
Nobody will argue that existing social platforms are an amazing place to find like-minded people, get a message out there, and stay up-to-date on everything happening in the world.
But at the same time, social media has failed at the one thing it was actually built to do: enable social interactions. As a creator, J.B. Ryder witnessed this first-hand.
Hence, while suffering from writer’s block in early 2024, he asked himself one simple question: What if there was a social media app where you could only add people in person?
The notion was so unconventional and contrary to everything the old generation of social apps were pushing that he just had to bring it to life.
All in all, the development of PalAbout spanned roughly a year between J.B. Ryder’s junior and senior years of high school.
Where did the name for Spire Interactive come from?
As stated above, J.B. Ryder is a science fiction author.
He also likes easter eggs. Therefore, you can understand why he named his social communications company ‘Spire’ by viewing the quote included here.
“Simply allowing the lightning to strike the tower wasn’t an option. All of Eden’s communication went through it. If the Spire went dark, their radios would be useless. They’d have to resort to smoke signals and messenger mounts.
’We have a team racing out there right now,’ Agnes explained. ‘But I swear to you, if you’ve cost us our very ability to speak, I’m going to—‘
